When handling your pool chemicals its easy to forget the importance of storing them correctly. Not only could incorrect storage be a safety issue but it can also reduce the life of many of your chemicals. In some cases you could be adding in chemicals that may not actually be doing its job as a result of them not being stored correctly.

Below is a list of the key steps you should follow when storing your pool chemicals;

  • Pool chemicals should always be stored in cool and dry environments
  • Keep the chemicals in their original containers and avoid stacking them to reduce chances of leaks
  • It’s also important to store the liquid chlorine drums upright, as the caps are vented for chlorine gas to release
  • Ensure there is plenty of ventilation
  • Store on ground level not above your head
  • Keep out of reach from children and pets

Keep pool chemicals away from:

  • Flammable items
  • Be attentive to what chemicals you are storing next to each other. For example you should keep liquid chlorine and acid at least 5 metres apart from one another to prevent any dangerous chemical reactions)

Do not your chemicals in:

  • An area with direct sunlight
  • Ensure any chemicals with caps are securely fastened.
