Suction Cleaners – Shop All

Let’s face it: Pool cleaning can be a real drag. But there’s a hero waiting in the wings: the trusty suction cleaner, ready to suck up all the gunk that’s been making your pool look less than pristine.

At Hy-Clor, we’re all about making pool ownership painless. Our pool suction cleaners are designed to keep your pool sparkling clean, so you can spend more time swimming and less time scrubbing.

What Are Suction Cleaners

Suction cleaners function as underwater vacuum cleaners for your pool. By connecting to the pool’s filtration system, they generate strong suction that effectively removes dirt, debris, and algae.

This collected material is then captured in your pool filter, resulting in crystal-clear water.

Suction pool cleaners can be used on various pool surfaces. Vinyl and fibreglass surfaces however are often not suited to suction cleaners, in which case robot cleaners may be a better option.

Key benefits:

  • Efficient
  • Convenient
  • Time-saving
  • Cost-effective

Choosing the Right Suction Cleaner

Here’s what you need to keep in mind when buying a suction pool cleaner:

  • Pool size: Make sure to choose a model that matches your pool’s dimensions for optimal performance.
  • Pool type: The material and shape of your pool can influence which suction cleaner will work best. Pools with unusual shapes and corners for example could create “stick” areas that would not suit suction cleaners. Vinyl and fibreglass pools are also not suited to most suction cleaners.
  • Sound: There are 3 main types of mechanisms that drive suction cleaners: Diaphragm, hammer and geared turbine. The hammer mechanism produces a thumping sound, the diaphragm is slightly quieter and the turbine is totally silent.
  • Budget: Suction cleaners are generally at the lower end of the price spectrum of pool cleaners. Within the suction cleaner category however there are cheaper options and more expensive options. The diaphragm and hammer mechanism cleaners are typically lower priced while the technology in the geared turbine cleaners is usually more expensive.

Maintenance Tips for Suction Cleaners

Taking care of your suction pool cleaner helps it last longer and work better, saving you time and money.

Maintenance tips:

  • Regular inspection: Check the cleaner regularly for wear and tear, and make sure the hoses are clear of debris and damage.
  • Cleaning the filter: Empty and clean the filter basket often to avoid clogs. A clean filter helps maintain better suction and efficiency.
  • Hose care: Look for leaks or splits in the hoses. Replace any damaged hoses to keep strong suction power.
  • Lubrication check: Make sure any moving parts are well-lubricated to reduce friction and wear.

Even the best systems can have problems from time to time.

Quick solutions for common issues:

  • Loss of suction: Check for blockages in the hose or filter. Ensure the pump is working well, filter has been backwashed or cartridge cleaned and all connections are tight.
  • Cleaner gets stuck: Look at the pool’s shape for tricky spots and adjust the hose length if needed. Clear any blockages from the wheels or drivetrain. Direct the pools return jets to the area where it gets stuck. Enquire about “joggers” to assist.
  • Unusual noise: Check for trapped debris or air in the system. Make sure all parts are properly put together and working smoothly.

With these maintenance tips and troubleshooting techniques, you can extend the life of your suction cleaner and keep your pool pristine.
